It is with great pleasure that I would like to announce the posting of the Canadian High Arctic Research Station's (CHARS) first key leadership position, the Chief Scientist. As a high-profile position, the Chief Scientist will significantly contribute to the world-class stature envisioned for CHARS.
As you may recall, in August 2012, the Prime Minister announced $46,200,000 over six years for the CHARS Science and Technology (S&T) Program. It was also announced that an additional $26,500,000 per year has been set aside, as of 2018-2019, for the on-going program and operations of the station. This S&T funding has allowed us to take the next step in the development of the CHARS S&T program and the CHARS organization.
The Chief Scientist will guide the launch of the CHARS S&T program and be responsible for establishing the year-round presence in Cambridge Bay. They will also be a key broker of partnerships between CHARS and stakeholders such as polar institutions, the private sector, academics, Northerners and federal departments. C’est avec grand plaisir que je vous annonce l’affichage du premier poste de direction clé à la Station de recherche du Canada dans l’Extrême-Arctique (SRCEA), soit celui de scientifique en chef. Il s’agit d’un poste très en vue qui contribuera de façon importante à faire de la SRCEA une organisation de calibre mondial.
