Postdoctoral Position in Toxicology/Exposure Science
A postdoctoral research position is currently available in the laboratory of Dr. Brian Laird of the School of Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo. The successful applicant will assist with the development and implementation of contaminant biomonitoring research among Aboriginal populations in the Canadian Arctic and subarctic. The goal of the project to be undertaken by the successful applicant is to investigate the current levels of contaminant exposure within First Nations communities in the Northwest Territories. The outcomes of this work will help shape public health interventions and communication strategies that promote traditional food use in ways that improve food security while limiting exposure to dietary contaminants such as mercury, cadmium, and lead.
Candidates with strong backgrounds in toxicology, risk assessment contaminant biomonitoring, exposure science, and/or Aboriginal environmental health are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a PhD in toxicology, environmental science, biology, health studies, or a related discipline. Experience conducting participatory research among Indigenous populations would be considered a major asset.
Interested candidates should send their cover letter and curriculum vitae by email to brian.laird@uwaterloo.ca<mailto:brian.laird@uwaterloo.ca>. The projected start date of this position is July 1, 2015.
The University of Waterloo respects, appreciates, and encourages diversity. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals including women, members of visible minorities, Aboriginal peoples, and persons with disabilities. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
