Fwd: SDWG's One Health Project Seeks Online Survey Responses

Hi Everyone,

I have been asked by Canada's head of delegation to CAFF (Trish Hayes) to share this with out network. Another the Sustainable Development Working Group of the Arctic Council is asking for support in getting this survey completed by as many people as possible.

Many thanks for taking your time to complete the survey, and pass it on.

Jenn

Here is the blurp about the project:

The SDWG is requesting your assistance and that of your networks in collecting vital data for our 'One Health' project.  'One Health' is holistic approach—considering human, animal, plant, and environmental factors—to identify health risks threatening the Arctic.  (More information is available at http://www.sdwg.org/). The project team will collect data via an online survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/AC_One_Health_Survey) to establish a baseline of the One Health approach in the Arctic region.  The survey aims to improve our understanding of where, how, and why individuals and organizations use a 'One Health' model.

The survey team would like to hear from participants from all of the Arctic Council's working groups, affiliated organizations, and their networks. The target audience for the survey are those individuals who currently or over the past five years have lived in, worked in, or done research in the Arctic.  This might include a colleague – someone within your professional network or agency/institute, country, or organization.  Or it might be an individual that you know personally from your community.  The goal is to hear from a diverse group of respondents, including traditional and local knowledge holders, who know something about human heath, wildlife, plants, animal health, ecosystems, marine and freshwater issues, water and sanitation, climate impacts, emergency response, or health and science policy.

The survey should only take 15 minutes.  It relies on a chain-referral survey method, so we ask that responders share the survey link with three colleagues, who in turn would take the survey and then share it with three contacts.  You can only take the survey once, but you can edit your responses until the survey is closed on March 15, 2016.

Thank you in advance for completing this survey and for sharing it widely!

M.Sc. candidate wanted for High Arctic microclimatic hotspot assessment project, Northern Canada

Hi APECS Canada members! Posting this for a colleague of mine. See below for description. Please contact Dr. Bonnaventure directly if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Daniel Lamhonwah

High Arctic microclimatic hotspot assessment, Cape Bounty, Nunavut, Canada

I am currently in search of a candidate to fill an M.Sc. position in surface microclimate and permafrost variability in the Department of Geography at the University of Lethbridge in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada to begin in September 2016. The ideal candidate would hold a B.Sc. or B.A. in physical geography or a related discipline, with a strong background in climatology, geomorphology, geomatics and field science. The research portion of this degree will involve both modelling and field work in the Canadian High Arctic and focus on the generation of high-resolution microclimatic models of surface and subsurface ground temperature variability.

The aim is to investigate the extent and variability of the landscape affected by the microclimatic effects of differential snow cover, and how the identification of these zones affect how we assess the spatial variability of projected climate change in High Arctic regions. The deadline for application for graduate programs at the University of Lethbridge is May 1, 2016 but a successful candidate has to be identified in advance of this deadline with the final selection coming no later than April 1, 2016. If you are interested in this position, please contact Philip P. Bonnaventure (Philip.bonnaventure@uleth.ca) for more information. Information on graduate studies at the University of Lethbridge can be found using the below website.
