Dear APECS Canada Board,

We were wondering if you could do us a small favour please. We decided to reach out to the board first just so we wouldn't be inundated by replies. 

Terin and I are organizing ArcticNet Student Day this year. We are having a bit of trouble filling up spots for the 3 minute elevator pitch session in the program. An invitation was sent out this week to all student poster presenters attending the to pitch their research. If you know anyone in your lab going to ArcticNet and will be presenting a poster, can you please encourage them to be part of the elevator pitches? It's an awesome opportunity to reach a very large and diverse audience to talk to them about their work. Thank you in advance!

Videographer/photographer needed for Student Day ArcticNet ASM

Dear APECS Canada members,

We were hoping to find someone who will be attending Student Day (Monday December 7 and Tuesday December 8) during the ArcticNet ASM in Vancouver that could help us film a few of our talks/workshops and possibly take a few photos during those two days. Announcing APECS Canada's 2015-2016 Board Leadership Team

We are happy to announce that the ehPECS board has successfully elected the inaugural Leadership Team that will steer our national committee through the next year. After a few years of building our programming and membership, APECS Canada has finally grown big enough to have a leadership body that can maintain the momentum of past programs and strategically plan new programs.

Post-doctoral fellowship in Biology at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada

The Northern Plant Ecology Lab (NPEL) at the University of Saskatchewan (Canada) is looking to fill a one-year post-doctoral fellowship (PDF) focused on successional dynamics in boreal forests (for more details, see http://npelusask.weebly.com/openings.html). This is a limited term, 1 year PDF position paid at a rate of $40,000-$45,000 per year, with a portion of funds allocated to project travel as needed. The fellowship will be held in the Department of Biology at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, SK, Canada under the supervision of Dr. Jill Johnstone. Residence in Saskatoon is not required, however the PDF should be willing to travel to Saskatoon a few times during the year to facilitate collaborative work.

We are looking for a candidate who has completed a PhD within the past five years, and who shows evidence of strong quantitative skills and experience with forest ecology and vegetation succession. Ability to work independently and meet regular milestones is essential, as are strong communication skills in English. To apply, please send a cover letter, CV, and examples of 2 research papers to Dr. Jill Johnstone by email (jill.johnstone@usask.ca). Your cover letter should address your interest in the project and what skills and experience you can bring to the work. Preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. The Call for Abstracts for the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) 2016 Open Science Conference is now open until 14 February.  The conference will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 22-26 August 2016, and will focus on "Antarctica in the Global Earth System: From the Poles to the Tropics", and how the changes that we are currently seeing in Antarctica will affect the rest of the world.
