Details:

We are looking for a Ph.D. student to study the migration ecology of shorebirds along the James Bay coast of Ontario. The position would be in the Environmental and Life Science (ENLS) Graduate Program at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. ENLS is a large and active graduate program with over 160 MSc and Ph.D students, most of whom are interested in Ecology and/or Conservation Biology. The position would be co-supervised by Dr. Erica Nol (Trent University) and Dr. Paul Smith (Environment Canada). The student would conduct field work for a minimum of two months a year at a network of remote sites in southern James Bay, Ontario. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated learner with previous experience in rugged environments, and with banding birds. Experience with VHF telemetry is also an asset. The successful applicant will have major input into study design and implementation. Publications from previous work (e.g., MSc or work-related research) and skills in data analysis are strong assets. Funding is secured for three years. Student support will come from a combination of graduate teaching assistantships from Trent University and funding from Environment Canada, with scholarships if applicable. Minimum annual support for Ph.D. students at Trent University is $20,435.99 with GTA support for the fourth year.
